Dr. Hao-Hoa Wu is the kind of physician you hope to find when you are frightened, in significant pain, and facing a complicated medical situation.

What has impressed me most about Dr. Wu is not only his knowledge and expertise, but his genuine compassion. I have also been profoundly struck by his intelligence. There is a thoughtfulness and depth to the way he approaches a complicated medical problem that inspires enormous confidence. After such a long and difficult medical journey, I can finally say that I feel safe in a physician’s hands. That feeling is difficult to put into words, and it means more to me than I can adequately express.

Dr. Wu recently called me unexpectedly because he had been thinking about me and was concerned about how much pain I was experiencing and how scared I was. There was no obligation for him to make that call. He simply cared.

I explained that I was experiencing a significant flare that had become even worse following extensive dental work. He listened carefully, understood how much I was struggling, and immediately took steps to help me, including prescribing a Medrol pack while we wait for my complete MRI.

I have dealt with a complicated medical situation for a long time and have seen many physicians. It is rare to encounter a surgeon with this combination of exceptional intelligence, medical expertise, attentiveness, humility, and genuine humanity.

Dr. Wu never makes me feel like I am simply a diagnosis or an MRI waiting to be interpreted. He makes me feel like a person whose suffering matters to him. Knowing that he is looking forward to reviewing my complete MRI and determining what can be done has given me something incredibly important: hope.

I am profoundly grateful to be under his care. I trust his mind, I trust his judgment, and, perhaps most importantly, I feel safe in his hands.
